For over a decade we’ve poured our hearts and energy into the beauty that is the Birdcage – the treats, the eats and our cosy Stellenbosch café.
We’ve discovered the best people and the most delicious ingredients, and we’ve savoured every encounter. And in all of this, we discovered a taste for adventure. So when a new opportunity popped up, we were thrilled to take it – even though it means saying goodbye to our beloved Birdcage.
We’ll be wrapping things up during the next few months up until the end of May, so get in your last mouthfuls of goodness while you still can! (We won’t be taking any wedding cake orders or caterings for events after May.)

This one is any chocolate lover’s dream and it’s suitable for vegans too! Delicious and moist, it’s decorated with toasted hazelnuts on top. PLEASE NOTE: This cake has no eggs or dairy products but contains sugar.
Now you can have your favourite ice cream flavour in cake form! Vanilla base cake, layered with cream cheese frosting and raspberry vanilla frosting on the outside, this berry bomb is decorated with freeze dried raspberries on top.
This matcha green tea cake is layered with orange-flavoured cream cheese frosting and covered with toasted black sesame seeds. A dusting of matcha green tea powder and seasonal berries deliver the final flourish. Who knew eating your greens could be so delicious?!
